Allied Vision Alvium embedded platform powers hugely versatile camera range
The Allied Vision Alvium 1800 range of cameras combines the best of two worlds: the performance and durability of industrial machine vision and the compact hardware and cost efficiency of embedded systems. It is ideally suited for machine vision applications requiring small and lightweight cameras that provide high image quality and frame rates at an attractive price/performance ratio.
The cameras are available with either GenICam-compliant USB3 Vision interfaces (Alvium 1800 U series) or MIPI CSI-2 interfaces (Alvium 1800 C series), and a choice of housings for even greater versatility.
Utilising the Alvium platform across all models means that the fully housed USB3 Vision versions are not limited to use in PC-based systems, but can also be integrated into embedded systems. A GenICam-based Transport Layer supports USB cameras to ensure plug and play compatibility with popular machine vision software libraries such as MVTec Halcon and STEMMER IMAGING’s own Common Vision Blox (CVB) for PC-based applications.
The Alvium platform not only has an ultra-compact lightweight design for easy integration into small systems, but also uses the SoC to directly perform image correction and pre-processing tasks to optimise the image without the need for an FPGA. This SoC has a much higher processing efficiency than FPGAs, which in combination with the high frame rates offered by the sensors makes the cameras ideal for high speed and complex imaging applications.
All camera versions are available with Sony IMX CMOS sensors with up to 20 megapixel resolution, offering high frame rates, high sensitivity, and excellent image quality, meaning that the right sensor, feature set and hardware options can be selected for the particular application. Sensors include Sony Pregius IMX265, IMX264 and IMX304 global shutter sensors and the IMX183 rolling shutter sensor. The IMX183 sensor features innovative back-illuminated technology for excellent low-light performance. There is also a MIPI CSI-2 version with an ON Semi 5 megapixel AR0521 rolling shutter sensor operating at 67 fps.
USB3 Vision cameras are available with a robust industrial grade housing with various lens mount options and high precision sensor alignment, or with an open housing or as a single board designed to withstand shocks and vibration.
MIPI CSI-2 cameras are available as single boards or with the open housing. A common CSI-2 driver supports the CSI-2 cameras for all NVIDIA Jetson platforms TX2, AGX Xavier and Nano greatly simplifying the set up of embedded systems.
