Fleet of Autonomous Mobile Robots Revolutionizes TV Production

Before automation, internal transport at the European TV manufacturer TPV Displays Polska's site in Gorzów Wielkopolski was heavily reliant on manual tasks. Employees had to maneuver TV panels and components through the production halls using electrically operated carts. This process was not only time-consuming and physically demanding, but it also led to an uneven material flow that was difficult to plan and only somewhat flexibly adaptable to new production requirements.

Automating Intralogistics
To optimize these processes, internal transport was fully automated by introducing 22 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) from KUKA. These self-driving systems navigate independently through the production environment and take over the central supply tasks. They transport components from the warehouse to ten different assembly lines, return empty packaging, and adjust their routes in real time. The robots work safely side-by-side with employees, freeing them from physically demanding tasks.

Smart Software and Seamless System Integration
The technical integration of the mobile units was implemented by the automation specialist Saicon. A central control software assigns transport orders, monitors the fleet, and optimizes the routes and utilization of the system. Thanks to inductive charging technology, the robots work almost continuously in 24/7 operation. A key success factor of the project was also the linking of the new autonomous fleet with the stationary industrial robots already firmly anchored in the plant.

"The interplay of stationary robots and AMRs increases the efficiency of supplying the assembly lines, enhances flexibility, and interlocks material flow and storage into a powerful overall system," explains Grzegorz Benda, Technical Director at TPV Displays Polska.

Transparency and Future Security
The real-time status of the entire robot fleet is visible to plant management at all times. The data generated in the process helps to analyze workflows specifically and optimize them continuously. At the same time, the system is designed to adapt flexibly to future requirements in electronics manufacturing.

As Mateusz Nowakowski, AMR Business Developer at KUKA Polska, summarizes, the successful implementation proves that autonomous mobile systems already significantly increase production stability through reliable processes, greater transparency in the material flow, and the masterful management of intralogistical complexity.
