TDK Corporation has introduced SensorStage, a software evaluation platform developed to simplify configuration, testing, and data analysis workflows for SmartMotion inertial measurement units (IMUs). The platform is designed to support development and validation of MEMS-based motion sensing systems used in applications including smart glasses, wearable devices, optical image stabilization (OIS), and IoT systems.
The SensorStage platform provides an integrated environment for evaluating on-chip sensor features, machine learning algorithms, sensor fusion capabilities, and power optimization functions across TDK’s InvenSense SmartMotion sensor portfolio.
Unified Development Environment for MEMS Sensor Evaluation
SensorStage is intended to bridge the gap between basic graphical user interface tools and fully customized sensor evaluation benches by combining advanced visualization functions with automated scripting workflows.
The platform supports TDK’s SmartMotion IMUs, including the ICM-456xx and ICM-426xx series, and is designed with compatibility for future generations of MEMS sensors and tunnel magneto-resistance (TMR) magnetometers.
Using the SmartMotion development board, engineers can evaluate integrated sensor functions such as machine learning inference, motion and event detection, Gyro Assisted Fusion (GAF), and chip-level power consumption monitoring within a single software environment.
The platform visualizes sensor behavior and analytics in real time, enabling developers to calibrate devices, evaluate motion sensing performance, and optimize embedded algorithms without extensive manual configuration procedures.
Accelerating Motion Sensor and Edge AI Development
Inertial sensor development workflows traditionally require specialized expertise in signal analysis, embedded software integration, and sensor calibration. SensorStage aims to reduce development complexity by providing prebuilt sensing features and automated evaluation tools that support rapid iteration and performance optimization.
The software also supports advanced sensor fusion workflows that combine data from gyroscopes, accelerometers, and magnetometers to improve motion tracking accuracy and stability in embedded systems.
The SmartMotion IMU architecture includes 6-axis sensing capabilities, integrating 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer functionality within compact MEMS devices. These configurations are commonly used in wearable electronics, augmented reality systems, industrial IoT devices, and camera stabilization technologies.
The platform’s future-proof architecture is intended to support next-generation edge AI and motion sensing applications where low-power operation, real-time analytics, and embedded machine learning increasingly influence sensor system design.
By consolidating evaluation, visualization, and scripting functions into a unified workflow, SensorStage is designed to reduce development bottlenecks and accelerate time-to-market for motion-enabled electronic products.
