KUKA Expands Heavy-Duty Automation with KR TITAN ultra

In automotive manufacturing, battery pack assembly, and heavy logistics handling, KUKA introduces the KR TITAN ultra, a heavy-duty industrial robot designed for extreme loads and long reaches. With a maximum payload of 1,500 kg and reach options up to 4,200 mm (at 1,000 kg payload), the system targets applications requiring stable kinematics, precise motion control and high cycle performance.

High Payload and Extended Reach
The KR TITAN ultra was developed for handling large and heavy components such as battery packs, car body modules and tooling systems. The most powerful version offers a payload of 1,500 kg with a reach of 3,200 mm.

Since mid-January, two additional variants are available with a payload of 1,000 kg and reaches of 4,200 mm and 3,700 mm respectively. This portfolio expansion allows system integrators and end users to select configurations according to load requirements, workspace dimensions and process layout.

Stability and Dynamics for Demanding Processes
The robot’s mechanical structure and motion control are designed for processes where repeatability, structural rigidity and cycle time are equally critical. The double-link arm architecture improves moment of inertia characteristics and supports stable movement under high dynamic loads.

According to Maximilian Pettkuhn, Product Manager at KUKA, the combination of payload capacity, reach and modular structure enables new automation possibilities in the heavy-duty segment.

Modular Design for Lifecycle Efficiency
The KR TITAN ultra follows a modular design concept that supports simplified planning, commissioning and servicing. This architecture facilitates integration into scalable automation cells and supports long-term lifecycle management.

Low maintenance requirements and energy-efficient components contribute to reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) over the operating life of the system.

Early Industrial Deployment
Shortly after its market launch, the KR TITAN ultra was delivered for integration in an automotive project implemented together with PIA Automation. The deployment reflects early demand for high-payload robotics in large-component handling and battery production environments.

Manufactured in Augsburg, the KR TITAN ultra strengthens KUKA’s position in the heavy-duty robotics segment by combining high payload capacity, extended reach and modular system flexibility for demanding industrial automation applications.
