Vision Components, a leading manufacturer of embedded vision systems, announces plans for full compatibility of its VC MIPI® camera portfolio with the new NVIDIA Jetson Thor series modules. Both companies have a long-standing collaboration and have already implemented several successful projects, including AMRs with camera-based navigation and deep learning applications using VC MIPI® cameras and the NVIDIA Jetson platform. Vision Components will provide open-source drivers for its cameras and NVIDIA Jetson Thor and support customers in the development and design-in of individual projects. Full compatibility will be achieved by the end of this year, depending on requests and projects.
NVIDIA Jetson Thor opens up new application possibilities
NVIDIA Jetson Thor is a powerful AI computing platform for robotics and other high-end applications. It delivers AI performance of up to 2070 FP4 teraflops while consuming only 130 watts of power. This represents a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Jetson AGX Orin, offering 7.5x greater AI computing performance and 3.5x better energy efficiency.
Jetson Thor was specifically designed to address a major challenge in robotics: the simultaneous execution of multiple AI tasks. This enables robots to interact intelligently and in real time with humans and their environment. This is particularly useful for applications that require fast, real-time inference. This capability is crucial for tasks such as perception and navigation in humanoid robotics, agricultural robots, and surgical assistants. Jetson Thor also enables other sophisticated embedded vision applications.
Jan-Erik Schmitt, Vice President of Sales at Vision Components, says:
"Vision Components has implemented many successful embedded vision projects with NVIDIA Jetson since launching our first MIPI cameras for embedded vision applications six years ago. We support all NVIDIA embedded platforms with open-source drivers and integration support. The Vision Components team is excited about the launch of Jetson Thor, and we are excited about the new possibilities this platform offers for embedded vision applications and smart devices."
Plug-and-play cameras for prototyping and production products with NVIDIA Thor
The VC MIPI® camera modules, featuring over 50 different image sensors, are perfectly suited for embedded vision projects and function plug-and-play with NVIDIA Jetson TX2, Jetson Nano, Jetson Xavier NX, Xavier AGX, and Jetson Orin Nano / Orin NX, as well as with the new modules of the Jetson Thor series. With available image resolutions from 0.3 megapixels to 20 megapixels, in monochrome and color versions, and with global shutter, rolling shutter, or global reset shutter, they offer maximum flexibility – from functional prototypes to product series. The VC MIPI® cameras are developed and manufactured in Germany, with the highest industrial-grade quality and guaranteed long-term availability.
