Launched in April 2022, the 5G Open Road project recently marked a significant milestone with its closing event at Télécom Paris, bringing together 16 major partners, including Renault, Stellantis, Nokia, and Bouygues Telecom. This initiative aims to revolutionize mobility through 5G technology, with tangible applications such as pedestrian safety, last-mile logistics using autonomous delivery robots, and Level 4 autonomous shuttles. UTAC’s Expertises and 2CS teams (Cyber, Connectivity & Software) showcased their expertise during the event.
UTAC at the Heart of Innovation in Connected Mobility
During this closing event, UTAC’s teams highlighted their pivotal role in the project, demonstrating the critical importance of 5G in enhancing communication between vehicles, road infrastructure, and the cloud—paving the way for smoother, safer, and more sustainable mobility.
The TEQMO track was also showcased, as it enabled real-world testing in a highly confidential test center, fully connected to 5G.
A Major Project for the Future of Mobility
At the conclusion of the closing event, it became clear that the 5G Open Road project significantly contributed to advancing thought on connected and autonomous mobility. Notably, the DGTIM produced white papers that will help shape future public policies on transportation and technology.
The project focused heavily on feasibility studies, with concrete trials and tests conducted on closed roads, and UTAC played a central role in this phase. The teams not only brought their expertise in connectivity, cybersecurity, and safety but are also actively involved in the development of the 5GORv2 project, which aims to scale up and amplify the impact of 5G on the mobility of tomorrow.
The Future of Mobility with UTAC and 5G
UTAC continues to establish itself as a key role in driving innovation and shaping the mobility of tomorrow. With advanced testing capabilities and expertise in connectivity, cybersecurity, and safety, we are focused on the future.
UTAC is ready to support the scaling of projects like 5GORv2 and contribute to the growth of connected and automated mobility across Europe.
