WEG establishes repair and service network

Delivering prompt equipment repair in the Middle East.

World-leading rotating machinery manufacturer, WEG has established a repair and service network to provide essential motor maintenance for customers in the Middle East. Following extensive audits, a select number of highly skilled service providers have been approved. The network of partners will provide aftersales support to users of WEG’s HV/MV machines, LV motors, automation and gearbox equipment.

The repair and service network will facilitate essential maintenance for WEG’s growing customer base in the Middle East — much of which is comprised of organisations operating in the oil and gas, petrochemical, aluminium and cement industries. The network is overseen by WEG’s Middle Eastern head office, based south of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

WEG has its own team of maintenance workers on the ground in the Middle East, equipped to deal with any issues on site. However, the geographically vast nature of the region poses a challenge how to repair equipment that needs more complex work that should be carried out inside a maintenance workshop. The new repair and service network will serve this growing demand by providing prompt support and delivering repair in fully equipped, technically capable and established workshops.

The network includes highly skilled service providers in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and once approved, a service partner will be appointed in Bahrain.

Ensuring the partner is up to scratch, an assessment is conducted by WEG to determine whether the business has the capacity and equipment to deliver a quality repair service for WEG’s customers. WEG also requires each service partner to meet specific ISO standards and have maintained a good reputation in the region.

Existing partners include Dubai World Dry Docks in Dubai, Alfanar in Saudi Arabia, Bahwan Engineering in Oman, Al Mulla Group in Kuwait and Plenum in Abu Dhabi.

“The Middle East is in an interesting situation,” explained Scott Holland, Service Director for Europe, Middle East and North Africa (EMENA) at WEG. “There is plenty of industrial activity within the region — including the thriving oil and gas sector. However, many of the most active sectors are operating with ageing equipment, increasing the demand for repair and maintenance.

“Industries in the Middle East also tend to operate under challenging settings, such as high temperatures, humidity and elevated levels of dust and dirt. The process of cement manufacturing, for instance, creates huge volumes of dust that can be damaging to industrial equipment. Naturally, motors don’t last forever in these environments, but we want to ensure that, when necessary, our customers can obtain repairs as quickly as possible.”

Establishing a small and tightly controlled repair network allows WEG to maintain high standards, while fulfilling the need for prompt commissioning, maintenance and repair in the Middle East.
