Intelligent Battery Management Systems from Eberspaecher Vecture
To ensure that electrical applications operate safely and without failure many OEMs rely on reliable Battery Management Systems (BMS). Under the slogan “Electrify the world” Eberspaecher Vecture offers a broad range of BMS for industrial use-cases: The portfolio of over 500 designs includes BMS for medical, motive, UPS, storage and back-up applications in the form of basic small 1S Protectors all the way up to feature-rich basic and large format boards of up to 400 cells in series.

Eberspaecher Vecture designs and manufactures a variety of systems, sub-systems and related components that are used in BMS applications. The large format distributed BMS family includes several products that are especially designed for the use in storage, UPS and motive solutions. The systems have high redundancy, MWh system capability and a broad range of special features such as built in ground fault detection (GFI), redundancies for voltage temperature and current, dual core ASIL D qualified processors and control of up to 18 contactors. Thanks to the modular design of the large format BMS a precisely targeted development for the required application is possible from 10 kwh to multiple MWh.
Products of the integrated BMS family are designed to provide increasing functionality and features for the end customer in the way the batteries are managed. It is focused on connectivity, IOT capability, max continuous current draw, flexibility, modularity, high redundancy, high safety and risk mitigation.
Integrated in portable applications, such as robotics, logistics or in storage they offer feature rich capabilities. One example of the product family is the V04265 4S to 16S MOSFET-based high-performance BMS. It is rated to 95A continuous operation free air (with an industry leading thermal rise of 15C), protecting 4 to 16 cells in any chemistry. High current operation closer to 200A is possible with appropriate heatsinking (passive/active).
Similarly, the V04263 5S to 24S high-performance BMS is capable of supporting multiple battery chemistries, with capability to drive 400-500A through four external contactors and two CAN communication lines.
High-performance, but low cost solutions are the small integrated 1S to 4S BMS. These have been very popular with medical, consumer and industrial fields where they support equipment such as oxygen concentrators, insulin pumps or ventilators amongst others.
For example the V04278 comes preprogrammed with the parameters stated in the data table compatible from 1S to 4S, suiting a general application for NMC chemistry and supporting 7A continuous and 10A peak discharge current with high speed short circuit.
Eberspaecher Vecture, located in Concord (ON), Canada, is participating in this year’s digital format of The Battery Show Digital Express on 12th August.
