O-PAS Certification Advances Open Process Automation

ASRock Industrial has received O-PAS Certification for its iEP-5010G-010 industrial IoT controller, making it the first product certified under The Open Group’s O-PAS Certification Program. The certification addresses interoperability and system management requirements for process automation environments where equipment from multiple suppliers must operate within a common architecture.
The controller targets process automation and industrial edge computing applications, including regulatory control infrastructure and distributed systems where standardized hardware management can simplify integration, maintenance and lifecycle upgrades.
O-PAS Conformance and Independent Verification
The iEP-5010G-010 is certified against the O-PAS Standard, 2nd Edition. Its conformity covers the OSM-003 Redfish System Management Profile and PP-003 Regulatory Physical Platform Profile requirements.
According to ASRock Industrial, certification was independently verified by Enterprise Transformation Partners and IECEE. This independent assessment distinguishes certification from supplier-declared conformance and provides a defined verification process for equipment intended for O-PAS architectures.
The OSM-003 profile uses Redfish for standardized in-band system management. Through this interface, automation infrastructure can access hardware management functions, operating-system information, system metrics and distributed control node visibility without relying exclusively on proprietary management mechanisms.
PP-003 addresses physical platform requirements for devices used in regulatory control applications. Together, the profiles provide specifications covering both platform characteristics and management interfaces.
Cybersecurity for Industrial Control Systems
The controller has also achieved IEC 62443-4-2 certification. This standard defines technical security requirements for components used in industrial automation and control systems, including authentication, access control, system integrity and protection of communications.
Combining IEC 62443-4-2 requirements with O-PAS conformance provides a cybersecurity and interoperability framework for deploying edge computing hardware within open process automation architectures.
Industrial Edge Hardware
The fanless controller uses an Intel Atom x6425RE processor and supports a 6–36 V DC input. It is specified for operation from -40°C to 70°C, allowing deployment in industrial environments where conventional IT hardware may not meet temperature or power requirements.
These characteristics enable the platform to operate as an industrial edge computing node while supporting the standardized management interfaces required by O-PAS-based systems.
Reducing Proprietary Dependencies
O-PAS is intended to reduce dependence on proprietary automation architectures by defining standardized interfaces and component requirements. For plant operators, this approach can make it easier to integrate equipment from different suppliers and replace or upgrade individual system components without redesigning the complete automation architecture.
The certification of commercially available hardware provides process-industry system integrators and operators with a verified platform for evaluating O-PAS deployments and multi-vendor automation architectures.
