The industrial challenge: scaling without moving

When DK Jones Ltd initiated a major facility refurbishment and expansion programme, the operations team faced a classic industrial bottleneck: how to dramatically increase storage capacity for heavy, mixed-size components without expanding the building footprint or incurring the costs of relocating to a new site. Traditional floor-based racking was no longer viable. It limited operational space and risked slowing down day-to-day warehouse workflows.

The Solution: High-Density Vertical Storage

The solution was delivered by Randex, the UK partner for Compact Lift automated storage systems, manufactured in Sweden by Weland Solutions.

Each vertical lift module occupies a footprint of approximately 9 square metres. The system is built around a robust rack-and-pinion drive concept, ensuring stable tray movement and precise positioning even when handling heavy or unevenly distributed loads.

The Results: 90 tonnes stored in one-tenth of the space

By transitioning from conventional floor storage to automated vertical lifts, DK Jones Ltd has transformed its logistics strategy:

• Reduced footprint: The new vertical storage system uses approximately one-tenth of the floor space previously required.
• High Storage Capacity: The four units together store around 90 tonnes of material safely and efficiently.
• Improved workflow: Heavy components are delivered directly to operators at an ergonomic working height, improving safety and freeing up valuable floor space.
