Autonomous Execution in Industrial Automation Engineering

The Eigen Engineering Agent represents a shift from generative assistance to autonomous execution within the industrial automation sector, specifically targeting the acceleration of engineering workflows. By integrating directly into existing automation platforms, the system handles end-to-end task planning and validation for complex manufacturing environments.

Transition from Assistance to Autonomous Execution
In the current industrial landscape, engineering teams frequently utilize AI copilots to generate code snippets or advice. However, the Eigen Engineering Agent is designed to operate as an active participant in the automotive data ecosystem and broader industrial sectors. It functions by understanding project parameters, writing automation code, and configuring hardware systems without constant manual intervention.

The system utilizes an iterative process where it validates its own output against pre-defined performance benchmarks. This technical mechanism ensures that the resulting automation logic is ready for production, addressing the "black box" concerns often associated with standard large language models. By managing repetitive low-level configurations, the technology allows personnel to address high-level architectural challenges.

Measurable Performance and Efficiency Gains
Data collected from pilot deployments involving over 100 companies across 19 countries indicates significant improvements in project timelines. The agent executes tasks between two and five times faster than traditional manual workflows. Technical benchmarks from these deployments show a 50% increase in engineering efficiency and up to 80% higher overall solution quality in assigned tasks.

The application scope covers several critical areas of industrial engineering:
  • PLC Coding: Automating the generation and debugging of programmable logic controller logic.
  • HMI Visualization: Streamlining the creation of human-machine interface screens.
  • Device Configuration: Reducing the manual input required to integrate sensors and actuators into the network.
At ANDRITZ Metals, the technology was utilized to enhance productivity and cost efficiency in metal processing lines. Similarly, CASMT applied the agent to electromechanical braking (EMB) lines, where it converted multi-discipline engineering challenges into a unified workflow, reducing the frequency of specialist handoffs and accelerating debugging phases.

Integration into the Digital Supply Chain
The Eigen Engineering Agent is integrated into the Siemens TIA Portal, providing immediate access to approximately 600,000 users. This integration is a primary component of a broader digital supply chain strategy, where AI-native tools are embedded into the standard software stack rather than existing as isolated applications.

The launch is supported by a €1 billion investment in industrial AI announced in November 2025. With a portfolio of over 2,000 AI patent families, the focus remains on creating a standardized operating system for physical AI. While the current release focuses on automation engineering, the underlying architecture is designed for future expansion across the entire industrial value chain, including maintenance and real-time operational optimization.
