Automation software supports digital packaging production

Packaging and process manufacturers are adapting their production strategies to increasing digitalisation, stricter regulatory frameworks, and higher demands for production transparency. Software platforms that connect machines, data, and control systems are becoming central to this transition. In this context, COPA-DATA will present its zenon software platform for process automation and industrial digitalisation at interpack 2026.

Software integration across packaging and process production
The zenon platform is designed for use by machine builders, system integrators and manufacturing IT teams seeking to connect production assets with digital manufacturing environments. The software follows a no-code or low-code development approach and supports standards such as Modular Type Package (MTP), OMAC PackML and the Weihenstephan Standards.

Through standardised communication interfaces, the platform enables the integration of machines and equipment into broader smart manufacturing architectures. This allows production data to be collected, visualised and analysed across production lines and multiple sites.

Such integration supports data-driven production environments where key performance indicators such as overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), equipment utilisation and process stability can be monitored. These capabilities are particularly relevant for OEMs and packaging equipment suppliers developing connected production systems as part of digital supply chain strategies.

Digital twins and modular production concepts
The software supports engineering approaches such as digital twins, coordinated production lines, predictive maintenance strategies and real-time performance analysis. These functions are intended to support early detection of efficiency losses and enable process optimisation through data analysis.

zenon also supports modular production concepts aligned with Plug & Produce principles, allowing production modules to be integrated or reconfigured with reduced engineering effort. This approach addresses requirements for flexible production lines where product changes or regulatory adjustments require frequent process adaptation.

Demonstrations at interpack 2026
COPA-DATA plans to demonstrate the latest version of zenon at interpack, held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from May 7 to 13, 2026 (Hall 8B, Booth D31).

Demonstrations will include the Human Machine Interface (HMI) capabilities of the platform, which allow visualisation and control of industrial processes. The HMI architecture is designed to support sector-specific requirements, including those in life sciences and food and beverage manufacturing, where validation, traceability and process documentation are key requirements.

Further demonstrations will address software support for regulatory compliance, sustainability monitoring, and the integration or modernisation of legacy industrial systems, reflecting ongoing digital transformation requirements across the process industries.
