HART-enabled pressure monitoring for high-temperature polymer processes
Gefran has introduced its new Melt HWJ and HMJ series, two melt-pressure transmitters equipped with the HART communication protocol. Built on the standard 4–20 mA analog signal, HART adds digital configurability and diagnostics, allowing operators to supervise pressure behaviour more closely in extrusion, compounding, and other polymer-processing lines.
High-temperature operation tailored to different process needs
The HWJ model ensures stable measurement performance at temperatures up to 315 °C, while the HMJ extends thermal resistance to 400 °C for applications requiring continuous operation under more severe heat conditions. Both variants use hydraulic pressure transmission combined with strain-gauge sensing, a combination that enhances signal stability and reduces drift during long production cycles.
The two series are certified SIL2 and PL d, enabling integration into Functional Safety architectures where melt-pressure data must be monitored to prevent over-pressure events, die failures, or thermal deviations.
Compliance with ATEX, IECEx, and Nepsi for hazardous environments
The transmitters are designed according to multiple protection modes:
- Flameproof Ex d
- Intrinsic Safety Ex i
- Dust Protection Ex t
In accordance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, the IECEx scheme, and Nepsi Ex regulations. This allows deployment in polymer-processing facilities with hazardous gas or dust atmospheres, where compliance and operational continuity are essential.
Installation flexibility for modern extrusion and polymer-production setups
Gefran offers several mechanical and configuration options across the HWJ and HMJ ranges, supporting integration into diverse machine layouts. The combination of extended temperature ratings, HART-based digital diagnostics, and robust certification makes these transmitters suitable for upgrading legacy measurement systems or equipping new high-performance extrusion lines.
