Applied Computing, the British AI company pioneering foundation models for energy operators, today announces a new partnership with Kongsberg Digital, the Norwegian provider of next-generation software and digital solutions to customers within oil and gas, chemicals and process manufacturing.
The partnership combines Kongsberg Digital’s AI-infused Industrial Work Surface with Applied Computing’s flagship AI platform, Orbital. By integrating Orbital’s multi-foundation AI, the two companies will further strengthen the optimisation of planning, operations and maintenance across refineries, petrochemical sites and industrial facilities.
A step-change in digital transformation
Digital twins allow industrial operators to create a dynamic, data-rich replica of their physical sites, enabling continuous monitoring, predictive maintenance and improved planning. Applied Computing’s Orbital platform is built on foundation models across physics, chemical engineering, time-series forecasting and language, delivering explainable AI that can be trusted in the most complex industrial environments. In live deployments, Orbital can reduce refinery emissions and energy consumption waste by 10%.
Through this partnership, Kongsberg Digital clients will be able to integrate Orbital directly into their digital twins for an additional layer of industrial intelligence – supporting operators in achieving deeper optimisation of performance, energy usage and carbon intensity.
Momentum for Applied Computing
The partnership follows a landmark year for Applied Computing. The company recently closed a £9 million seed round led by Stride.VC and Repeat.vc – one of the largest ever for a UK AI company – and appointed former Shell AI leader Dan Jeavons as President. Applied Computing is already working with some of the world’s most complex industrial sites, including one of the largest refineries on Earth. Applied Computing recently announced a landmark partnership with Databricks, and expects to announce a suite of additional partnerships across consulting, industry and finance.
